In with the new!

The New Year has arrived! I am thrilled to see what this year will bring. With only three months until I start rotations, I can't even imagine how much I will learn and get to do throughout the year.

Our New Year's Eve was better than expected. The boys went fly fishing for the various types of trout in the NC mountain streams while us girls brunched and went shopping. Here are some pictures of our day.

We ate brunch at a quaint restaurant on Main St in Blowing Rock called Story Street Grille. The food was amazing and the decor was simply perfect. I may or may not be stealing a few ideas for our home.
Fried green tomatoes + pimento cheese

Monte Cristo + fried okra

I am loving the gold frames on the gallery wall as well as the lighting above.

Later that evening, we got all dressed up for dinner and the celebrations that followed.

The hubby and me before dinner.

I promise my pup is not evil.

We were very lucky to score reservations at The New Public House in downtown Blowing Rock. Add this place to your must eat list if you are ever in the area. Seriously, their quail was the best I've ever eaten not to mention the atmosphere was fun and inviting.

I'd love a few of these chairs in my home.

Fried quail + bourbon glaze + Black eyed pea cake
Rack of lamb + Clemson Bleu cheese potatoes
Maine Lobster
We then headed to our favorite place to ring in the new year, Twigs. It's a bit of a hole in the wall place, but it never disappoints. They always have a live band that starts the party.

We headed back south this morning. While Blowing Rock is a beautiful town, I sure do miss the salt water and weather back home. It's always good to get away for a little while, it makes you appreciate what you have so much more. After unpacking and unwinding a bit, I cooked my first Hoppin' Johns dinner. I subbed the collard greens for brussel sprouts (New Public House got me hooked) and made my grandma's recipe corn bread. I must say, this year started out perfectly!
